Mr Manning qualified in 1992 and trained at The Harlow Wood Orthopaedic Hospital, The Derby Royal Infirmary and The Nottingham University Hospitals. He undertook a fellowship with Peter Lunn at the DRI. He was appointed as a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon in Nottingham in 2004.
